Hammers on Bone, Cassandra Khaw’s first Tor.com Publishing novella is available to read right now, and I highly recommend you get to doing so. The book blends the hard-boiled aesthetic of neo-noir with the isolating horrors of the Cthulhu mythos in ways you’re sure to find fresh and original. However, if you need another reason to invest in the book, we’ve got just the thing for you. I’m happy to announce that I’ve acquired another novella in the world of Hammers on Bone for Tor.com Publishing!
A Song for Quiet is a standalone follow-up to Hammers on Bone. Rambling bluesman Deacon Jones meets trouble on his journey from Georgia to Arkham—visions of nightmares, gaping mouths and grasping tendrils, and a madman who calls himself John Persons. According to the stranger, Deacon is carrying an seed in his head, a thing that will destroy the world if he lets it hatch. I’ve had a fantastic time working with Cassandra, and truly believe her to be one of the most vibrant new voices in SFF. I’m thrilled to be able to continue the story of Hammers on Bone.
A Song for Quiet was acquired from Cassandra Khaw in a deal facilitated by her agent Michael Curry of the Donald Maass Literary Agency. Khaw had this to say:
Holy catfish! Is there a word for ‘I can’t believe I sold the sequel already?!’ Because I need it right now. A Song for Quiet has been bouncing in my head since even before I wrote Hammers on Bone. Like its predecessor, it’s going to be a stylistic experiment and it’s going to be gruesome, an exercise in language and what falls in between the silences. There’ll be some tough subjects addressed, and I hope I’ll be able to do them justice. (I’m pretty confident I can with people like Carl and my agent Michael Curry in my corner.) Glee.
A Song for Quiet will be available in ebook and trade paperback in 2017. You can buy Hammers on Bone today, or read an excerpt first here on Tor.com.
